About Favicon Checker

Favicon Checker looks at a website the way browsers, phones and search engines do. Enter an address and it tells you which icons are there, which are broken and which are missing, with previews of how the site looks in a tab, in Google, and on iOS and Android home screens.

Why we built it

A broken favicon rarely shows up in your own browser. The site can look fine there while Google shows a gray globe, an iPhone saves an icon with black corners, and the server answers /favicon.ico with an HTML page. Many checkers stop at the tags; we fetch each file and read its bytes.

What a check covers

The homepage's icon tags; /favicon.ico, /apple-touch-icon.png and every declared icon; the web app manifest and its icons; robots.txt for Google's access; and the HTTP side: status codes, redirects, content types and cache headers. Each result gets a score out of 100 and its own page, for example favicon-checker.com/github.com.

Guides

The favicon size chart lists the files a site needs today. If Google won't show your icon, start with why a favicon doesn't show in Google; if an old icon won't go away, see how to clear the favicon cache.
