Our crawler

If you found FaviconChecker/1.0 in your server logs, someone used favicon-checker.com to test your site's icons.

User agent

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/141.0 Safari/537.36 (compatible; FaviconChecker/1.0; +https://favicon-checker.com/bot)

Requests come from Cloudflare's network, so the IP addresses belong to Cloudflare.

What it fetches

  • the homepage, read only up to the end of <head>;
  • /favicon.ico, /apple-touch-icon.png, /robots.txt and /browserconfig.xml;
  • every icon and manifest file the homepage declares, and the icons listed in the manifest.

That is usually 15 to 30 small requests, never more than 44 per check. Each file is capped at 512 KB, and a request gives up after 5 seconds.

How often

A check runs only when a person asks for one. However many people check the same site, it is fetched at most once every 10 minutes; in between, they see the saved result.

robots.txt

Because each check is started by a person, the crawler fetches the same files a browser would on a first visit. It reads robots.txt to report whether Googlebot may crawl your homepage and icons, not to decide what to fetch itself.
